Having released last year, Violet Evergarden: The Movie is a proper sequel to the anime. It was a huge hit when it was released in Japanese theaters last September, staying within the top ten of The story of Violet Evergarden is not that good actually, it's almost impossible to create something original nowdays. The thing that i like of this anime (and the reason why is one of my favourite) is how the authors stay grounded, everything in this anime feels real, every human emotion and reaction feels like real life.

Violet Evergarden is all about coming to terms with loss and grief, and it is spectacularly effective in how it does this. Many anime shows that do this are deliberately manipulative, and Violet Evergarden is no different, but what is different is that you won’t care about its emotional contrivances, so good is the storytelling, so effective

Haha yes I agree with you. Ive seen people talk about how Violet and Gilbert's relationship was parent child, and I agree. During the war, Gilbert took care of Violet. But then after the war Violet grew a lot, and now I want Gilbert and Violet to be together. I havent seen the new movie, but I hope they do. The only way around something like that is to explicitly write a rule of your universe that makes that necessary. No such thing has been done for Violet Evergarden, because as far as we know, it’s just alternate reality 20th century Europe. No superpowers, no magic, just some auto-mail and that’s it.
Tbh I cried probably every single episode. Butttt I think I cried the most in episode 10. Yes I figured that the letters were for Ann and that she was going to die, it was still absolutely heartbreaking to see how much the daughter loved her mom and how she would have to grow up without her : (. Since I'm a critic and I did review the series, I did mention that some people might not like the melodrama or that the series is constantly trying to pull on your heartstrings and people can find that emotionally manipulative, and some people don't like feeling that an anime is trying to emotionally manipulate them, in the case of Violet

Little by little. But sadly during a battle with a rival country, Violet lost both of her arms and Gilbert lost his life. But before he died, he told her that he loved her and that she must live a free life. Without the need to fight in the war and for her to actually become her own person.

One of my favorites. KyoAni magic made Violet Evergarden one of the most gorgeous anime I've ever seen. God tier music and vocals. Watching Violet's character development is a treat as she experiences all the highs and lows of people. Episode 10 is also one of my favorite episodes across all anime. I cry everytime. .
